A Royal Date Night
As Texans, we know about the State Fair. Every year, we flock to the fried "this or that" best food contests trying to outdo what almost raised our cholesterol by 200 points the previous year. And, the people watching. Who doesn't love that? Comedian, Jeff Foxworthy, has an interesting take on that when he said, "If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest, craziest, most dysfunctional family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair. Because five minutes at the fair, you'll be going, 'you know, we're alright. We are dang near royalty." Perhaps nowhere close to the royalty that has been in the news lately. Yes, the royal wedding is upon us. Friday, April 29, is the big day for His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales, K. G. marrying Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey. What? You didn't get your invitation? Well, I did. Not only did I get an invite to this over-the-top, universal celebration, I'm going to extend one to you. Don't thank me yet. You're actually not crossing the pond. It will take place right here in good ol' Fort Worth. On Friday, April 29th, 2011, beginning at 3:00 A.M. CST, Chef Asdren Azemi of Ruffino's Restaurant in Fort Worth, is throwing a Royal Wedding Watch party for the early risers. The party starts at 3:00 a.m., one hour before the wedding begins and the live television coverage will be viewed on two television screens. Chef Asdren recommends all attendees to bring his or her favorite pillows. The attire is pajamas and picture hats with gloves optional. Men can wear a formal tie and pajamas. "Although this party is at three in the morning, it is intended to be fun," says Azemi. One of the highlights of this watching party will be a Royal Tea experience. This includes a selection of teas, scones, cucumber sandwiches, Dundee cake, clotted cream, sticky toffee pudding and buttery tea cookies. As if you needed more incentive to attend, there will also be drawings for a Ruffino's dinner for two. After the wedding, a proper English breakfast will be served. This includes scrambled eggs, sausages, potatoes, tomatoes, toast and marmalade. The cost for the Royal Tea, the English breakfast and the watching party is $50 per person. On the grand scheme of things, it is much cheaper than flying to Europe. Surely it is far more convenient. More importantly, how cool will you be when you tell people Monday morning around the water cooler that you attended the Royal Wedding...in your PJ's?
